One of the trickiest parts of parenthood is school. Getting your kids to embrace school and understand its importance is yet another full-time job. Depending on the school district you live in, it can be a double overtime job.

My children’s attitudes toward school are different. One loved school and was an overachiever, until high school, which turned out to be harder than he expected. The other loved going to school in elementary school, but when middle school came along all he did was complain. I got him to try sports and he loved it, but still complained about it.

They both did well in school, and they knew school was not an option in my home. The one thing I am grateful for is that they take turns needing extra support. There are times when I had to stay on them to do their work and there are times when they can operate independently. All in all they have not had or given me too many issues, but we do still have 5 years to go.
