Electronics

One of the biggest challenges is determining how much time you allow your children to interact with electronic devices. There are recommendations for each age group, but it looks like 2 hours per day is a good number. I imagine it is different for everyone and different for parents with multiple kids and parents with a single kid. One thing we need to remember is TV is technically an electronic device. So, even though parents may put time restrictions on cell phones, computers and even video games, allowing the kids to turn to the TV can be just as bad. I must admit I am one of those. I do have time restrictions on phones and computers, but oftentimes will tell them to go watch TV. After a long week or even just a long day, I need some downtime and these electronic devices become my best friends. When the children are preoccupied with electronic devices, they don’t bother me. I even tried to make it something educational by getting them kindle fires. There was a requirement of reading time before they could play the games, but unless I was sitting there watching them, I didn’t know if they were actually reading. However, there was a limit on the amount of time they could use it to play games. I encourage outside time, but generation Z is a generation of electronics and it’s hard convincing them to go out. My advice is don’t let other people and society make you feel bad about the amount of time you allow your children to use electronics. I say do whatever works in your household. I’m sure there will be instances when you can limit or even eliminate hours on electronic devices. Now, I’m sure society would not agree with me, and I know that more hours can have a negative effect. However, I also believe stress and anxiety has a negative effect. Therefore, everyone needs to find the right balance in their households.
